Brexit: Important information for UK based customers

Since December 31st the UK is not part of the EU anymore and, out of a customs and trade view, the UK now counts as a third country. That means that you will need to pay custom duties and import sales tax when importing goods from the EU. Import sales tax will be additionally 20%. The prices communicated on our website for UK customers do not include VAT!
In addition, we currently expect the custom duty being 14% on your purchase.
Please keep in mind that you will have additional costs of VAT + CUSTOM DUTY!

DO I NEED TO PAY CUSTOM DUTY?

Yes, currently we expect that you need to pay additional custom duty on your purchase. Until today we were not able to find out the exact custom duty. Importing a complete bike into the EU means 14% custom duty. We expect the UK setting up a similar tariff.

WHY DOES IT SHOW LOWER PRICES FOR UK CUSTOMERS SINCE JANUARY 2021 ON OUR SHOP?

From a trade union and customs point of view we need to treat our UK based customers as a “third state” since January 1st, 2021. Therefore, a UK customer doesn’t pay German VAT anymore. Communicated prices are not including VAT.

IS IT GENERALLY CHEAPER FOR ME WITHOUT VAT?

No. Important for our UK customers – although you do not have to pay the VAT when ordering the bike with us anymore, you must pay the import sales tax directly to the UK when we ship the bike to your home. VAT and import sales tax are probably equally expensive.
In addition, you also must pay UK customs duty when we ship the bike to your home in the UK. We expect this to be 14%.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW REGARDING CUSTOMS AND IMPORT SALES TAXES?

We need a signed customs authorization form from you. With a copy of this document at hand, our logistics company can then carry out the customs clearance and shipping to you.
Import sales tax and customs will be paid by you directly to the UK tax authorities.
But do not worry – we will manage this process together. You will receive the template for the customs authorization form from us and a custom agent will get in touch with regarding payment options.

In case you are purchasing through your company you need to have an EORI number in place in order to get the VAT deducted.

WHAT ABOUT SHIPPING TIMES?

Our logistic companies are currently working on implementing the new trading rules so that we can start shipping under the new Brexit guidelines as soon as possible. That means that although your bike might be boxed and ready to be shipped, we can´t get it to you right away, but we are working on a solution for you together with our logistic partners. Nevertheless, shipments to the UK should start in February 2021 again.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL CONTACT REGARDING BREXIT?

We can’t apologize enough for this annoying situation and although we are no politicians and not have been involved in all this drama, we can promise you one thing – we are riders, and we know the unsatisfying but also exciting feeling of waiting for a new bike. Please count on us, we will do our best to get you onto your trails on your brand new Propain.

Therefore, we have also set up a separate E-Mail account for you for all questions about Brexit and shipping to the UK under [email protected]
