The Red Bull Rampage Recap with Carson Storch and Clemens Kaudela

Red Bull Rampage 2023 was an event in a class of its own. This year two of our athletes took part and both proved in different ways why they belong to the best freeriders in the world. Fortunately, this year the event could take place without major interruptions due to wind. But let’s start from the beginning.

Like every Rampage, it started with a lot of shoveling. Since this is Carson’s ninth Rampage participation, he knows the unique conditions of the Utah desert perfectly. For Clemens it is his first Rampage, but he also knows a lot about building trails. Besides building courses like Darkfest, Clemens even has his own trail building company called CK Construction.

Two more familiar faces: Daniel– and Elias Ruso were part of Clemens Kaudela’s Dig crew and also know a lot about Big Air.

After two or three days, the first lines could be tested, and they were just crazy. Clemens had a massive canyon gap and this huge drop in his line. Others jumped this drop as a double drop, but Clemens wanted to jump directly to the second landing. We’ll take a look at whether this would actually work out in a moment.

Straight down the mountain – Carson opted for an insane shoot straight down the mountain followed by some huge drops.

Then it was finally time: early in the morning the riders set off for the big show. Many wanted to test the last features in the morning and so did Clemens Kaudela.

For the first one, he then jumped as the only rider his incredible drop and managed it perfectly! 15 meters of free fall must feel incredible. Now it just had to work in the final.

All riders went to the top and got ready for their runs. The nervousness increased and luckily there was no strong wind like last year, which made the second runs impossible. First it was Clemens turn and right after that Carson followed. Unfortunately, Clemens crashed on a 450 and came up short. But he was unhurt and immediately got ready for the second run.

Clemens back on the way up after his first run.

Carson, on the other hand, was completely on fire and rode an absolutely perfect run. Every one of his incredible tricks worked perfectly and so he secured a terrific score of 87.

The second before a disaster. Clemens Kaudela made the 450 in his second run without any problems this time, but then he came to his incredibly huge drop and crashed heavily. We were shocked and feared the worst, but after only a few minutes Clemens got up again as if nothing had happened, simply unbelievable.

Probably the tuffest Austrian: Clemens Kaudela

In the end, Carson’s 87 points were enough for a well-deserved 3rd place. We congratulate on this incredible performance and can only say thank you for this insane show. We are very happy that all riders survived the event without serious injuries. We wish Szymon Godziek who crashed similar to Clemens and Gee Atherton a speedy recovery and are looking forward to next year.
